    Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanic Level 2 to join our Specialty Ingredients business at our Freetown, MA location. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the Manufacturing function. This position will report to the Maintenance Manager. 

     

    Description

    The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Participates in all Safety activities as defined by the Site Zero Incident Culture.
    • Predictive and preventive maintenance of mechanical equipment: including lubrication, alignment, and vibration analysis.
    • Mechanical repairs: including agitator removal, gear drive repairs, pump rebuilds, seal changes and glass lined vessel repairs.
    • Equipment troubleshooting, failure analysis, plan and layout sequence of equipment assembly.
    • Assist purchasing: Consult with suppliers to determine applicability of new designs and materials and order repair parts where applicable.
    • Verify environmental compliance: including inspecting and emptying tank farm berms as necessary.
    • Cross-function with other trades as well as engineering personnel where applicable.
    • Other duties as required

     

    Qualifications

    In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

    • High School Diploma or equivalent.
    • Some technical education (degree, trade school, or military experience) or previous related 0n-the-job training is preferred.
    • Associate in engineering a plus
    • Eight to ten years’ experience of equipment installation, service and repair in a chemical processing or industrial environment. Maintenance of mechanical systems such as air compressors, pumps, air handling units, HVAC, fans, blowers, chillers, seals, heat exchangers, and various water systems.
    • Working knowledge of Maximo, MS Products, and AutoCAD preferred.
    • Knowledge of pumps, compressors, agitators, drives and glass lined equipment is a requirement.
    • Knowledge of mechanical seals and packing is a requirement.
    • Capable of wearing a respirator and to perform confined space entries is required.
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and be capable of operating a fork truck. Training will be provided.
    • Understanding of Maintenance Managements Systems, Maximo CMMS is preferred.
    • Ability to communicate well with coworkers, Engineering, EHS, and Production.
    • Mechanical aptitude, resourcefulness and creativity
    • Strong leadership skills.
    • Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.
    • Ability to troubleshoot equipment, recommend and perform equipment repairs
    • Ability to prioritize work assignments.
    • Ability to read and understand blueprints.

    Training on chemical and equipment hazards is preferred
