    Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Process Engineer to join our Ashland Specialty Ingredients business at our Hopewell, VA site. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the Engineering function. This position will report to the Process Technology Manager.


    The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Determines root cause of chronic operating problems. Recommends and assists in implementing solutions
    • Analyzes production data and quality data to determine optimum operating conditions
    • Develop capital project justifications and lead assigned projects
    • Provides technical support for capital projects including investigating new equipment
    • Process design to support Plant Expansions
    • Investigates alternate raw materials for cost and quality improvements
    • Investigates opportunities to improve plant through-put and capacity
    • Actively participates in area Safety team


    In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

    • BS in Chemical Engineering
    • 5+ years of chemical manufacturing experience
    • Must have demonstrated experience in the following areas: the ability to apply data based problem solving techniques and the use of statistical quality improvement methodologies
    • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States

    The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:

    • Previous experience with Control Systems
    • Previous experience in Production Operations
    • Hazard Analysis - HAZOP, PHA, Good Manufacturing Practices, ISO Systems
    • Team Player with excellent written and oral communications
    • Proven data analysis and problem solving skills
    • Proven planning and organization skills
    • Execute projects as part of a team, as a team leader or independently
    • Proven self-starter with urgency for delivering results
