    Ashland has an exciting opportunity for an EHS Manager to join our Ashland Specialty Ingredients business at our Hopewell, VA location. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the Environmental, Health& Safety function. This position will report to Plant Manager.

    Description

    The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

     

    • Possesses a thorough knowledge of and ability to effectively utilize methods and tools to conduct risk assessments and process hazard analysis.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and a thorough understanding of EHS regulatory structure and requirements, EHS management systems and company requirements.
    • Able to lead, implement and measure plant specific, company, and/or regulatory EHS program elements.
    • Exhibits ability to conduct root cause analyses, identify corrective actions, and utilize incident management systems to improve site and employee safety
    • Demonstrates skill in project management tools and methods to successfully manage and implement several projects and initiatives simultaneously.
    • Possesses thorough knowledge of adult learning methods and able to identify, develop and facilitate EHS related training materials and topics.
    • Adheres to and practices an appropriate and effective set of core values and beliefs during both good and bad times, acts in line with those values, rewards the right values and disapproves of others.  Consistently demonstrates and is regarded as having high integrity and trust among peers, managers and employees, is widely trusted and seen as a direct, truthful individual, keeps confidences and admits mistakes, doesn't misrepresent him/herself for personal gain.
    • Builds and sustains working relationships with people of diverse cultural identities, styles and functional responsibilities on all levels including an hourly workforce.
    • Provides current, direct, complete, and "actionable" positive and corrective feedback to others, lets people know where they stand, faces up to people problems on any person or situation quickly and directly, is not afraid to take negative action when necessary, able to challenge the status quo, open minded to new ideas.

     

    **This job is based on a ladder structure and the job level (salary) will be determined by the quantity and quality of your experience.

    Qualifications

    In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

    • Bachelor of Science or comparable degree in Industrial Safety, Environmental Science or other related technical degree (i.e., Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, etc.)
    • A minimum of seven years of industrial safety and regulatory experience in a manufacturing or distribution setting of which two years must be in the oil or chemical industry.
    • Ability to work with individuals and teams to lead EHS initiatives
    • Detail Oriented and able to prioritize work
    • Authorized to work in the U.S.

     

    The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:

    • Safety certification is preferred, if not otherwise required by region or country regulations.
    • Emergency response experience
    • Experience working with regulatory agencies
    • Production and/or maintenance supervisory experience
    • PSM/TCPA experience
    • Emergency response experience
    • Production and/or maintenance supervisory experience preferred
