    Ashland LLC has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Engineering 2019 Summer Intern to join our Maintenance group at our Texas City, TX plant. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the manufacturing function. This position will report to the Reliability & Maintenance Manager.

     

    The Electrical Engineering Summer Intern will work to support the improvement of the site’s electrical infrastructure/equipment to ensure installed systems, equipment designs and installations (new/replacement/upgrades) while meeting all applicable codes and standards. The candidate will have the opportunity to work in a production/plant environment. The position will provide experience the individual can use to relate directly to his/her university course work while working alongside site’s Reliability Staff, Instrumentation & Electrician craftsmen, outside contractors and internal groups, (e.g., Process Controls, Engineering, Safety & Reliability Engineers) to learn plant processes, support reliability improvements, gather data, analyze the data using statistical analysis, and implement improvement initiatives.

    Description

    The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

     

    • Follow all plant safety policies and help create a safe working environment.
    • Participate in/perform Preventative Maintenance activities for electrical equipment and instrumentation, including scenario development of electrical expansions, updating/modernization opportunities, energy cost savings possibilities and action-item resolution.
    • Work with Maintenance Engineers to support daily reliability goals and improvement activities.
    • Support PM improvements by following trials and gathering/analyzing data.
    • Make updates to PM procedures/drawings and conduct craftsmen training where required.
    • Perform day-to-day electrical/reliability performance monitoring, and report findings to the Maintenance Manager & Engineers.
    • Ensure all instrumentation and electrical installations along with Preventative Maintenance programs meet current and up-to-date Corporate and regulatory standards.
    • Support/manage the implementation of small capital projects with contractors.
    • Work with Plant Maintenance to implement small expense projects.
    • Participate on quality and reliability improvement teams where appropriate.

    Qualifications

    In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

     

    • Candidate must currently be enrolled in college working to obtain an Electrical Engineering degree from an accredited university.
    • Individual must currently have 3.0 GPA or higher and have completed three years’ coursework.
    • Applicant must be a self-starter with a passion for learning and be willing to work in a plant environment.
    • Individual must also have the ability to interface well with employees involved in electrical engineering and maintenance work, including Instrumentation & Electrician Technicians, Process Operators, Contractors, Maintenance Craftsmen, Laboratory Technicians, Process/Manufacturing Engineers, Maintenance Manager, Operations Manager, and members of plant’s Leadership Team

     

    The following Physical/Mental abilities are preferred by the business unit:

     

    • Individual must be able to respond appropriately during site emergencies as directed by the Site Emergency Manager.
    • Must be capable of evacuating the manufacturing process areas in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.
    • The candidate must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment if required to work or visit within the manufacturing process area. This may include hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being performed.
    • Other physical activities may include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting up to 25 lbs., or reaching depending on the work activity required.
    • Work is performed in an office/plant environment with frequent trips to the operating units to assess equipment or processes, perform inspections and/or collect data.
    • May be required to operate Company vehicle on Company business.
    • Confined space entry may be required.
    • Candidate must also have the ability to 1) identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management, including Corporate, 2) develop and foster a positive work environment at all levels, and 3) resolve conflicts through problem resolution skills.
    • The individual must also have the ability to identify quality improvement opportunities and formulate action plans for implementation. This requires exceptional work planning and problem-solving skills.
