    Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Production Area Engineer to join our Ashland LLC business at our Calvert City, Kentucky location. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company. This position will report to the Operations Manager.

    Description

    The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Work under direction of senior production area engineer on process improvements using problem solving skills and continuous improvement methodologies including six-sigma, waste reduction, process reliability improvement, etc. This includes responsibility for production/ yield/product quality improvements & investigations and corrective actions.
    • Learn and actively use Incident Prevention tools including: CLAWS observations, JSA (job safety analysis), Work Risk Assessments, etc.
    • Focus on reducing energy usage and cost, including identifying ideas and developing opportunities and projects to reduce utilities (nitrogen, electricity, steam, natural gas, DI water) consumptions.
      • Work under direction of senior production area engineer to:
      • support the Area & Unit chemical processes
      • maintain the production aspects of the SAP system, including BOM (bills of material), MR (master recipe) and PV (production version) transactions
      • provide technical support for optimizing processes
      • ensure daily operation per standards
      • support all aspects of GMP and EFCI manufacturing standards and then develop/ update operating procedures following the standards as required
      • participate in Root Cause Analyses for Safety/Environmental incidents, complaints, quality issues, etc. and customer and regulatory audits
      • develop and implement small projects /AFE’s projects (<$100K)
    • Work closely with department staff, production scheduling, reliability, process and project engineering. Leading and/or participating in natural work groups and other process efforts and teams.

    Qualifications

    In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

     

    • BS in Chemical Engineering with a minimum 3.0 GPA is required.
    • Must have a good understanding of unit operations and engineering principles.
    • Minimum 6 months - 1 year of engineering and/or manufacturing experience is required. This could include time as intern or co-op program participant.
    • Must have effective interpersonal and communication skills.
    • A commitment to working effectively within an empowered workforce and team structure is required.
    • Critical thinking skills and sound ability to apply data-based problem-solving methods is required.
    • Willingness and aptitude to learn and apply lean/six sigma and statistical process improvement tools and project management skills is a must
    • The production engineer must demonstrate a strong commitment to zero incidents and injuries in the workplace and beyond. The incumbent will be required to utilize and wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required to perform duties within the manufacturing area including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety foot wear, respirator, FRC Clothing and other PPE as determined to protect the individual.
    • The incumbent must possess ability to remain calm during site emergencies and respond appropriately as directed by the Ashland Site Emergency Director.
    • Must be capable of evacuating the manufacturing process areas in a timely manner should an emergency arise.
    • Incumbent must have demonstrated productivity and effectiveness in a teamwork environment and must have demonstrated competency and willingness to adapt to change. 
      • Work is performed 50% of the time in a chemical operating area including elevated platforms.
      • The incumbent must be able and willing to work extended hours at a 24-hour, 365-day operation. There is frequent need to stand, stoop, walk, sit, reach, demonstrate manual dexterity, talk, hear and see.
      • The incumbent may occasionally be required to lift light to moderately heavy objects (up to 25 lbs.) and perform other similar actions during the workday. Individual may also be required to operate a Company vehicle on Company business
