    Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Hazard Classification Specialist SME within the Environmental Health and Safety Department to join our Ashland LLC business at our Bridgewater, NJ location.  This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the hazard classification function. This position will report to Global Manager of Toxicology, Hazard Classification and Product Stewardship.



    The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Knowledgeable and be able to apply classification to chemical components according to GHS and country specific regulations for all physical and health hazards.
    • Experienced in conducting research of available toxicological data on a component using on-line databases and other sources of information.
    • Be able to evaluate the toxicological data to determine relevancy and quality.
    • For complex classification of chemical components be able to recognize the complexity and provide the toxicology team with a summary of the situation and the available information that was gathered, so that they can easily assist in the classification process.
    • Evaluate hazard communication regulations and the related SAP rule logic to determine if they are in sync.
    • Identify and lead management of change processes based on changing component classification. This includes documenting classification decisions so that they can be tracked.
    • Identify and help streamline processes resulting in higher efficiency and increased output. Lead some process improvement initiatives.
    • Provide training to new team members, regulatory colleagues, and business partners on issues, requirements, and processes.
    • Technical knowledge – toxicology, ecotoxicology, and general/ organic chemistry (in context of Hazard Classification), as well as Hazard Communication and Global Regulations
    • Service oriented and sensitive to business needs without losing focus of legislative requirements.
    • Be aware of new product/chemical safety legislation and changes to regulations impacting products and businesses and ensuring that the appropriate people are aware of potential issues and that necessary action is taken.
    • Be willing to be innovative and function effectively as a team player.

    In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

    • Minimum requirements: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Toxicology or other relevant scientific field
    • 3+ years experience hazard classification of components or mixtures.
    • Excellent knowledge of global hazard communication regulations (GHS, CLP, OSHA HazCom 2012, etc).
    • Broad knowledge and field experience of product regulations. (TSCA, REACH, Prop 65, etc.)
    • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.

    The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:

    • 3+ years experience using SAP with EHS module
    • SDS authoring certification
    • Masters Degree
