    Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Hazard Classification Specialist SME within the Environmental Health and Safety Department to join our Ashland LLC business at our Bridgewater, NJ location.  This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the hazard classification function. This position will report to Global Manager of Toxicology, Hazard Classification and Product Stewardship.



    The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Support the implementation and maintenance of the Hazard Communication internal standard at our global manufacturing sites. This covers topics like (workplace) labeling, SDS management and training. You will be coordinating the implementation, tracking progress and providing tools, best practices and support where needed.
    • Maintain and mature the raw material safety data sheet (SDS) management program at our manufacturing and R&D facilities. This would include technical support, training, tracking progress and maintaining site contacts.
    • Rollout the use of tools to facilitate chemical hazard communication to our manufacturing and warehousing sites and provide user training for employees.
    • Develop, support and roll-out projects, tools or guidance regarding hazard communication based on identified needs both within our organization or externally. For example around hazard communication labeling.
    • Act as the ‘go-to’ person for hazard communication regulation and process questions within the company.


    **This job is based on a ladder structure and the job level (salary) will be determined by the quantity and quality of your experience.


    In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

    • Bachelor degree, preferably in a chemical or related discipline
    • Proven project management and communication skills
    • Proven knowledge of chemical legislation, preferably Globally Harmonized System of Classification Labeling (GHS)

    The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:

    • Proven experience in implementing or applying GHS in the workplace
    • Able to make decisions, set priorities, and work independently
    • Ability to develop and setup projects including action items and time-line
    • Service orientated and sensitive to business needs without losing focus of legislative requirements
    • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
