Ashland LLC is looking for an experienced Chemical Distribution Supervisor to join our team at our plant located in Piedmont, SC.

Description

The Distribution Supervisor reports functionally to the Plant manager. Reporting to the incumbent are two non-exempt clerks and seven distribution operators. This position is held accountable for maintaining the supply of raw materials needed for the manufacture of 106,000,000 pounds of polymer production annually as well as having responsibility for the procurement of chemicals and operating supplies as required by the Piedmont facility.  Additionally, this position is responsible for the production planning, receipt, inventory, and shipment of all raw materials and finished products of the plant. Responsible for all distribution activities, including compliance with all applicable transportation regulations, safe transit of product, quality of transportation services and all shipping activities which are accomplished through third-party private carriers.

 

The incumbent represents the highest level of Distribution authority on site. Many situations requiring immediate decisions with regard to the distribution and production functions must be made without immediate supervisory support.

 

Principal Accountabilities Include: 

  • Purchasing planning and inventory management for all raw materials and plant stocks needed for production at Piedmont. Schedule shipments to meet customer requirements.
  • Participate as a member of Central Safety Committee, Facility Emergency Response Preparedness Team and Chairman of the Emergency Response Subcommittee. Responsible for Plant Emergency Response Team, including the personal handling of emergency situations.
  • Leadership responsibility for the Zero Incident Culture Safety Process (ZIC) in the distribution department. Insuring all leadership and team activities are completed as required.
  • Participate as a member of the Plant Manager’s staff for review of budgets; project and production scheduling; Profit Improvement Opportunities; as well as long range planning.
  • The incumbent must promote professionalism in the Distribution function by properly directing his/her own activities and the activities of all subordinates
  • Supervision of the plant raw material procurement and distribution department and implementation of Corporate policies and procedures.
  • Training and development of the Plant Distribution Operators, Purchasing & Distribution clerks.
  • Comply with local, state, and federal government regulations pertaining to transportation.
  • Selection and scheduling of carriers for all customer shipments and the documentation to satisfy commercial terms and government regulations.
  • Track commodity and transportation markets, and interpret impact on ability to meet requirements.
  • Schedule and conduct operation meetings with all carriers.
  • Conduct DOT mandated hazardous materials training for all workers. Assure re-training accomplished as appropriate.
  • Direct and supervise the distribution programs such as freeze prevention, bio-contamination control, transportation security, backhaul and consolidation programs.
  • Supervise the maintenance and efficient operation of assigned rail cars, utilizing ARI as required. Audit tank car inspections, use Norfolk-Southern for railcar tracing and monitor transit and delivery schedules.
  • Maintain all transportation equipment as clean and equipped as required by Ashland and as requested by customers. Ensure all products are shipped to meet customer specifications.
  • Monitor carrier service. Answer customers’ complaints and implement appropriate and effective corrective action.
  • Collaborate with the Production Supervisor on raw material needs as predicted by the Advanced Scheduling & SAP systems.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a B. S. in Logistics or 5 - 7 years of experience with three to five (3-5years) distribution experience; two to three (2-3) years in an operating environment.
  • Chemical or Distribution experience preferred.
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Strong Microsoft Office Skills
