Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Second Class Chemical Operator at our facility located in Huntsville, AL. 

Description

Employee performs the warehouse duties of shipping and receiving materials, and operating batch chemical processes. They support the plants housekeeping and ground maintenance requirements. They also provide vacation relief to First Class Chemical Operator working rotating shifts.

 

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Moves, stacks, and stores materials in warehouses and plant areas using pallet jacks, hand trucks and powered lift trucks. Prepares out going product orders and load trucks.
  • Performs ground maintenance, including operation of lawn mowers and other ground maintenance equipment.
  • Performs inspections of safety equipment and make corrections when directed.
  • Performs housekeeping of their work areas.
  • Operates a batch chemical process to recover lost product.
  • Performs limited duties of the First class Chemical Operator position for vacation relief.
  • Performs inventory of plant production materials.
  • Manually remove waste material from pit using shovels.
  • Assists with equipment maintenance using tools and equipment to support plant installations of equipment.
  • Cleans exterior of tanks, building and equipment with high pressure washer.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • 1 Year +minimum experience working in a production type setting required. Some maintenance experience preferred.
  • Able to work 12 hour rotating shifts, which includes weekends. Training will be on 1st shift
  • Self-starter and able to work independently after training.
  • Able to do diversified duties
  • Must be authorized to work in the US.

 

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Be able to climb ladders, stairs at varied excessive heights (50 Feet).
  • Capable of lifting and walking with weights approaching 50 pounds.
  • Able to perform very strenuous tasks while wearing air-supplied respirator, protective equipment, and other safety related personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to be calm during emergencies and work in a rapid paced environment.
  • Must be able to perform duties independent of supervision.
  • Must be able to operate a fork truck lift and other powered lift equipment.
  • Pushes/pulls material containers weighing up to 400 pounds with “drum dolly” and containers or super sacks weighing up to 2,400 pounds with pallet jacks.
  • Required to walk and stand continuously while performing assigned duties.
  • Turns, stoops, kneels and crouches while performing some aspects of the job.
  • Reaches, pulls, handles, lifts and carries with materials and products.
  • Fingers are necessary to feel and handle material and operate testing equipment, while running routine tests.
  • Talking, hearing, color vision, depth perception and good peripheral vision are required to properly operate fork truck lift, perform testing and communicate results
