We currently have an opening for a Chemical Operator in Hopewell, VA.  This position is responsible for the operation of process equipment to produce raw material feed to other processes with our 24/7 - 365 day per year manufacturing site.  This work is done with minimal supervision and includes both manual physical lifting/moving as well as utilizing computerized process control systems to control chemical manufacturing equipment.  


  • Carries out duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines including FDA, EPA and OSHA.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and unobstructed work area
  • Problem solving, initiative and decision-making skills
  • Provide customers with the highest quality of products and service
  • Monitor production process using computerized process control system
  • Operate and control chemical manufacturing equipment including: high speed cutting machines, process filters, vacuum systems, dust collectors and explosion control systems
  • Lock out / tag out equipment as necessary
  • Help train and give guidance to other employees Respond to alarms, and/or problems according to Standard Operating Procedures
  • Accurately documenting equipment operating parameters using data log sheets and daily shift notes
  • Accurately and completely make SAP and other computer transactions
  • Load and unload materials from rail cars utilizing fork lift
  • Actively participate in quality, safety, and production teams
  • Perform general housekeeping and maintain a clean work environment
  • Performs minor maintenance / adjustment duties as required
  • Flexibility to work overtime as required
  • Efficiently perform tasks while always keeping safety and quality first


Basic Qualifications 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be eligible to work in the US
  • 3 years of Industrial, Manufacturing or Military experience
  • Ability to work rotating shift schedule including weekends and additional scheduled and unscheduled overtime
  • Employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Preferred Qualifications   

  • Chemical manufacturing in food, pharmaceutical or cosmetic fields
  • Chemical manufacturing experience
  • Previous experience with OSHA required Lockout Tag Out, Confined Space, HAZMAT, PPE Requirements
  • Prior experience using process control computer systems, (e.g. Delta V)
  • Prior experience with explosion prevention systems (e.g. FIKE)
  • Experience entering data into computer system (e.g. SAP)
  • Ability to maintain data logs which include time, weights, temperatures, pressure, all legibly and timely
  • Prior forklift operating experience
  • Previous experience in an environment utilizing GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), ISO Certification
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Laboratory Information Systems (LMIS)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in quality improvement processes


Physical Demands  

  • Maneuver/lift heavy/bulky materials in hot /cold environment
  • Regularly required to walk, stand, climb stairs and ladders
