Ashland is hiring for an EHS Specialist in Chatham, NJ! Position will  provide the overall leadership and direction toward the safety, health, environmental, and security efforts to achieve and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations, company policies, and other requirements in a cost effective manner. 


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Provide overall vision, leadership, and direction to the environmental and safety issues at the plant.
  • Maintain facility operation and environmental permits and associated regulatory administration. 
  • Completion and submission of all required safety and environmental reports.
  • Develop and implement programs to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Investigate all safety incidents/accidents, all spills or releases as well as near hits.
  • Ensure development and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Manage all safety and Environmental policies and procedures for the site.
  • Keeps abreast of current regulatory trend and programs.
  • Ensure that plant personnel obtain training to maintain and enhance necessary skills.
  • Training as required by company and regulatory agencies including creating/updating training materials, class room training and documentation including Ashland computerized training systems.
  • New Employee safety orientation and training.
  • Act as site Responsible Care Management Representative.
  • Maintain certification as site Hazardous Waste Management representative.
  • Product Suite and MOC Coordinator.

Document Control:

  • Manage the Document Control System for the Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security areas
  • Revise and update existing procedures when changes are initiated and/or implemented
  • Work with other departments to ensure all EHS requirements are incorporated into all procedures
  • Have a very good understanding of plant processes and equipment to understand impact on safety and health
  • Ensure that all EHS procedures in use are current
  • Ensure that all procedures are followed

Emphasize and observe safe operating procedures. When working in the plant, must maintain security, make sure not to cause property damage, must not create fire hazards, and must comply with all legislative requirements.


**This job is based on a ladder structure and the job level (salary) will be determined by the quantity and quality of your experience.

**This position is located in Chatham, NJ.



  • 1-5 years of Experience with Responsible care, environmental permits and reports, regulatory, and hazard waste management preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field
  • SAP experience preferred 
  • Ability to train staff preferred
  • Must be authorized to work in the US
