Ashland LLC has an exciting and challenging opportunity for an Environmental and Regulatory Affairs Paralegal.


 **This position can be in Dublin, OH or Wilmington, DE.


Specific Responsibilities:


Environmental Claims:

  • Internal investigations of facts relating to claims and government information requests relating to potential responsibility for costs of remediation. Preparation of summaries and initial claim evaluations. Documentation of investigation.
  • Supports internal reporting related to evaluation of liability, accounting for claims, reserve setting.
  • Litigation hold management (paper and electronic records).
  • Discovery support: Collection and preservation of records, including paper and electronic media; identification and outreach to witnesses; draft discovery responses.
  • Member of E-Discovery team
  • Review and summarization of settlement agreements, consent orders and similar documents intended to resolve potential

Legal Management:

  • Supports management of outside counsel with respect to remediation claims and other environmental and real estate matters. (Retention letters, fee estimates, case assessments, invoice review, legal site estimates/updates, resolve unpaid bill issues, payment discrepancies).
  • Supports financial management of legal services. (Tracking and reporting of financial information).


  • Coordinate Financial Assurance for remediation sites.
  • Status updates for Quarterly Reserve Review
  • Supports financial reserve setting and SEC reporting (compiling legal fee and remediation cost estimates for 3rd party sites).

Real Estate:

  • Assists in collection of due diligence documents for sale of real estate.
  • Coordinates with and assists real estate regarding documents needed to respond to environmental claims.

Regulatory issues:

  • Support Environmental and Product Regulatory compliance activities.
  • Support defense of potential enforcement actions.


**This job is based on a ladder structure and the job level (salary) will be determined by the quantity and quality of your experience.


  • 5 to 10 years paralegal or comparable experience. Background in litigation, environmental claims, real estate and environmental and product regulatory compliance.
  • Outstanding communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Well-organized
  • Ability to manage and prioritize numerous projects
  • Self-starter
  • Positive attitude, exemplary work ethic and habits
