Overview

Ashland LLC has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Process Engineer.

 

**This position is located in Hopewell, VA.

 

The Ashland Hopewell site is a specialty chemicals plant with a heavy emphasis on chemistry.  We produce a variety of cellulose-based chemicals in 5 distinct operating plants.  Our varied products are used by a broad range of other industries including Paint & Coatings, Food, Pharmaceutical, Energy, and Construction.  This broad base provides many opportunities for growth.  On the Hopewell plant, there are many of the classic unit operations.  This includes Reactions, Distillation, Separations, Drying, and Grinding. The Pilot Plant for Ashland cellulose-based products is also located at the Hopewell site.

Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. 

  • Determines root cause of chronic operating problems. Recommends and assists in implementing solutions.
  • Analyzes production data and quality data to determine optimum operating conditions.
  • Provides technical support for capital projects including investigating new equipment.
  • Process design to support Plant Expansions
  • Investigates alternate raw materials for cost and quality improvements.
  • Investigates opportunities to improve plant through-put and capacity.
  • Actively participates in area Safety team.

**This job is based on a ladder structure and the job level (salary) will be determined by the quantity and quality of your experience.

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience with Control Systems
  • Previous experience in Production Operations
  • Hazard Analysis - HAZOP, PHA, Good Manufacturing Practices, ISO Systems
  • Team Player with excellent written and oral communications
  • Proven data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven planning and organization skills.
  • Execute projects as part of a team, as a team leader or independently.
  • Proven self-starter with urgency for delivering results.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Process Engineer II, III; 3+ years of chemical manufacturing experience
  • Process Engineer I; 0-3 years of chemical manufacturing experience
