Ashland LLC has an exciting and challenging opportunity for an SAP Financial Applications Architect.  


**This position has the flexibility to be in Lexington, KY, Wilmington, DE, Bridgewater, NJ or Dublin, OH.


The SAP Financial Applications Architect is a member of the team of IT professionals responsible for the business solutions that support Ashland’s corporate Accounting/Tax/Treasury organizations.  The SAP Financial Applications Architect will ensure the efficient configuration, development, testing and deployment of the SAP solutions required to support these areas.  The individual will also be engaged with our Managed Service Provider and end users to simplify processes, modernize platforms and help increase adoption across our global presence.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work with the IT relationship managers and internal customers to understand business process, challenges, and requirements to help design business solutions and help charter IT projects. Formulate action plans with cost estimations and resource planning for improving solution delivery or enhancement projects.
  • Serve as a functional consultant to translate new business requirements into solutions comprised of available SAP and/or SAP-related tools.  Includes responsibility for designing, validating, implementing, and supporting final solutions.
  • Support the roll-out of SAP to new Ashland locations.
  • Lead a FI team during a project.
  • Support and drive process improvements within Ashland’s SAP Financial Accounting modules and Controlling modules.
  • Provide education and support to end users to maximize the benefit of SAP to their daily job functions
  • Support and drive internal IT process improvements
  • Work as an IT Consultant to deliver solutions in a secure manner.
  • Provide Tier 3 support for the Accounting, Tax and Treasury business processes in SAP as well as supporting bolt-ons, software applications and interfaces.
  • Research and participate in benchmarks for technologies for trends or emerging best practices and opportunities for continuous improvements.
  • Work with business users and IT team for timely resolution of operational (functional and technical) and project issues.
  • Understand and articulate our technical environment and develop associated road-map for advancing areas to meet the business needs.

**This job is based on a ladder structure and the job level (salary) will be determined by the quantity and quality of your experience.


  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, business, accounting or related field; graduate degree a plus.
  • 5-10 years of SAP functional experience (configuration and support) in the FI/CO/Tax and Treasury areas.
  • Experience with ECC 6.0 or higher. Knowledge of New GL, Simple Finance and S4Hana a plus.
  • SAP implementation experience
  • Understanding FI integration with SD, MM and HR
  • Work with small and large teams as required to execute project plans
  • Experience leading others on a project
  • Ability to work in an Agile environment.
  • Strong analytical and data skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation and documentation to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to collaborate with business and IT team members at all levels of an organization to efficiently develop solutions and resolve process/operational, functional, data and technical issues.
  • Able to travel 15-20%
  • Independent, inquisitive, self-starter capable of working in groups or individually
