Ashland is seeking a Plant Quality Engineer at our facility located in Calumet City, IL

Description

The Plant Quality Engineer at our Calumet City, IL Ashland Specialty Ingredients location develops, implements, and maintains policies, procedures, instructions, and programs designed to minimize deficiencies, ensure compliance, minimize customer complaints, and operate the quality system in a cost-conscious manner. Additionally, they will be responsible for the review of new and proposed quality related activities and interpreting the potential impact on operations, procedures, facilities, and reporting requirements.

 

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Ensures Corporate Quality initiatives are implemented at the plant level and leads multi-functional teams to ensure that all required activities are carried out. Establishes new processes and/or procedures to ensure continuous improvement of the Quality System. 
  • Manages the implementation and ongoing effectiveness of the Quality Management System, specifically transition to the ISI 9001:2015 standard. Acts as an adviser regarding quality activities, interpretation of compliance with ISO 9001 and the relative impact, cost-effective quality assurance, and other quality issues. Reviews proposed quality projects and process changes for impact on the existing and future quality status. 
  • Identifies areas of non-compliance and opportunities for improvement through periodic audit and inspection of assigned facilities. Prepares reports on the inspection findings along with recommendations for corrective action and continuous improvement. Ensures agreed upon action is taken. Ensures appropriate personnel are notified when corrective action is not implemented as agreed. 
  • Acts as a liaison between the plant and customers – analyzing, coordinating investigation and response to their complaints, and taking corrective action if necessary. Leads cross-functional teams to determine root cause and corrective actions for quality issues.  Completes survey requests from external customers as required.  Works with division Quality Manager on cross-plant initiatives, or with local Plant Manager on local projects as required. Serves on various committees focused on improving quality of products and work processes as assigned by the Plant Manager.  
  • Manages both external and internal quality issues reporting systems for the site including process documentation and training for internal users. Prepares monthly quality reports, scorecard, and analysis of defects. Leads the Calumet City, IL laboratory team in efforts to implement best practices and standards with test methods and laboratory equipment.  Acts as local Power User for SAP Quality Module (QM) and Quality Information Module (QIM). 
  • Supports new product launch initiatives with respect to analytical testing, plant capability and standard methods. 

**This job is based on a ladder structure and the job level (salary) will be determined by the quantity and quality of your experience.

 

 

Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Chemical Engineering
    • Specialized technical quality training, Six Sigma, SPC/SQC and root cause analysis exp. preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of International Standards ISO 9001:2015 preferred
  • Analytical Laboratory experience a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others across all levels
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven leadership capability
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem solving skills
  • Strong ability to influence
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
