Ashland LLC has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Safety Specialist at our facility located in Columbus, OH.  

 

 

Description

 

This position works with the Health, Safety and Security Team utilizing natural sciences, mathematics, technology, and engineering to help identify and control biological, chemical, human factors and physical effects that may arise in the workplace and affect the health or standard of living of workers and or the community. Additionally, this position is responsible for implementation of and continued compliance with PSM and other Health and Safety regulations.  This requires frequent communication, coordination, and contact with all departments in the Plant to insure compliance and documentation of compliance.  Will also track and follow-up on investigations, audits, audit action items, and other compliance issues.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the development and presentation of safety training programs, including new hire orientation and monthly regulatory required safety training programs. 
  • Track and maintain documentation of safety training programs. 
  • Responsible for maintaining employee health and wellness programs including annual physicals and evaluations, respirator qualification and training, first aid and blood borne pathogens and drug testing. 
  • Assist in tracking worker’s compensation costs, payments and light duty program. 
  • Assist in development and maintenance of the RCMS 14001 programs. 
  • Maintain the Material Safety Data Sheet and Contractor Qualification programs.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS – Field of Degree: Safety/Hygiene or the general sciences required
  • 1-3 year’s industry experience in a Safety related position with appropriate education background Required
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills required along with good interaction and communication skills
  • Ability to execute, embrace and follow through with delegated duties.
