Ashland is seeking a Continuous Improvement Engineer to join our team in Texas City.

Description

This role will be responsible for providing daily process support in the processing areas, lead process improvement initiatives, and focus heavily on product quality improvements.  A strong emphasis on process improvement and quality improvements which lead to reduced operating costs and higher customer satisfaction.   Long term solutions to operational problems will also be developed and implemented.   This position will develop extensive process expertise and will be a process improvement resource for the Texas City site as well as other locations. 

  • Perform all functions of their assigned work in a safe manner and is ACTIVELY involved in all site efforts regarding our “Zero Incident culture”.
  • Consult with the Operations Manager and other Production department staff to establish annual departmental goals and objectives for the site’s production areas.
  • Utilize the appropriate process improvement methodologies or statistical methods to solve operational problems, improve process capability and efficiency, and enhance product quality.
  • Provide leadership and focus on product quality and product safety initiatives that meet all customer expectations.
  • Review daily operation of the production areas and performs process troubleshooting to maintain desired unit capacity and product quality.
  • Identify and implement projects for cost savings and long term resolution of operational problems.
  • Work within capital and fixed budget guidelines on all projects and utilizes cost control measures where necessary.
  • Partner with Process Operators, Engineers, Supervisors, Specialists and other site personnel to develop, implement, and improve process control systems within the plant.
  • Coordinate and/or participate on quality and process improvement teams throughout the plant in all functional groups.
  • Participate in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, for the purpose of improving the plant’s performance and profitability.

 

**This job is based on a ladder structure and the job level (salary) will be determined by the quantity and quality of your experience.

 

**This position is located in Texas City, TX.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of science in Chemical Engineering or related discipline required
  • 5 years' chemical plant manufacturing experience is required
  • Must be well versed in plant process engineering, trouble-shooting and problem solving techniques, engineering standards, and process safety
  • Relevant process improvement experience such as Lean Six Sigma, or related methodologies with demonstrated results is required
  • Must have the ability to interface well with employees involved in process engineering work, including process operators, manufacturing engineers, and members of sr. staff or corporate management, as required
  • Must be authorized to work in the US.

PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Individual must be able to respond appropriately during site emergencies as directed by the Site Emergency Manager. Must be capable of evacuating the manufacturing process areas in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.  The candidate must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment if required to work or visit within the manufacturing process area.  This may include hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

 

Candidate must also have the ability to 1) identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management, including Corporate, 2) develop and foster a positive work environment at all levels, and 3) resolve conflicts through problem resolution skills.

 

The individual must also have the ability to identify quality improvement opportunities and formulate action plans for implementation.  This requires exceptional work planning and problem solving skills.
