Description

**This job is based on a ladder structure and the job level (salary) will be determined by the quantity and quality of your experience.

 

The successful candidate will be accountable for providing analytical services and quality control for the plant.  In so doing, the candidate is responsible for supervising all aspects of lab operations including procedures, testing, safety, equipment, apparatus maintenance and training of laboratory personnel.  Also, provides support to the Quality Specialists in stability testing, failure investigations, tracking QC lab metrics, data handling, SOP preparation, validation and preparation of customer audits.

 

JOB DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Works with Quality Systems Manager to establish annual performance goals for the Quality department and ensures achievement of goals.
  • Supervises a staff of hourly Lab Technicians working a rotating shift schedule to accomplish the above duties.
  • Oversees all aspects of Laboratory operations that contribute to the site’s production of high quality products and ensures that current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) are in place and followed.
  • Reviews and approves raw material for use and non-cGMP finished product for release.
  • Assist with QA Specialists in validation and approval of cGMP product, lot consolidations, segregations and re-classes.
  • Initiates out-of-spec investigations where appropriate.
  • Coordinates efforts with others in the Quality department to maintain the needed documentation required to support continued ISO-9001:2008 certification.
  • Ensures that analytical laboratory methods are followed and that problems and questions are resolved.
  • Ensures that all laboratory equipment and testing facilities are well maintained and in good working order.
  • Provides training, instruction and adherence to analytical testing, safety procedures, ISO-9001:2008 standards and current good manufacturing practices (cGMP).
  • Works to eliminate non-value added work to increase efficiency in the Lab.
  • Provides support to the laboratory, warehouse and production on LIMS and LIMS training.
  • Tracks and charts QA/QC Department’s goals and objectives by setting up matrix and compares actual results with pre-determined results.
  • Tracks outside laboratory test reports and notifies outside lab of delinquent test reports.
  • Ensures compliance with all company policies and procedures that pertain to lab personnel including attendance, overtime, illness, pay and vacations.
  • Recognizes the successful efforts of employees to increase productivity reduce costs and improve work processes.
  • Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry or closely related discipline is required
  • Minimum of 5 years’ laboratory experience is required.
  • Must be well-versed in analytical laboratory testing, wet testing, analytical method development and chemical plant processes.
  • Knowledge of cGMP guidelines and regulations, ISO-9001:2008 standards.
  • Must also have proven supervisory skills, be an effective communicator, and have ability to interface well with employees at all levels.Mimimum of 3 yrs+ of supervisory background.
  • Holds working knowledge of current software systems, i.e. SAP, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Skilled in utilizing database software programs.

PHYSICAL / MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Individual must be able to respond appropriately during site emergencies as directed by the Site Emergency Manager.  Must be capable of evacuating the manufacturing process areas in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.  The candidate must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment if required to work or visit within the manufacturing process area.  This may include hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being performed.  Other physical activities may include walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, or reaching depending on the work activity required.  Work is performed in an office/plant environment with possible trips to the operating areas to perform tests, inspections and collect data and samples.  Training required to perform the job properly may require this position to travel within Texas and around the United States of America.

 

Candidate must also have the ability to 1) identify critical issues and formulate action plans with all levels of management, including Corporate, 2) develop and foster a positive work environment at all levels, and 3) resolve conflicts through problem resolution skills.

 

The individual must also have the ability to identify quality improvement opportunities and formulate action plans for implementation.  This requires exceptional work planning and problem solving skills.
