Ashland has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Lab Technician.

 

**This position is located at our facility located in Columbus, OH.

Description

As a Lab Technician you will test and inspect products at various stages of the production process and compile and evaluate statistical data to determine and maintain quality and reliability of products by performing the following duties:  

  • Adhere to all plant, Ashland corporate, & governmental regulatory safety rules and regulations.
  • Adhere to all ISO 9001 quality management requirements.
  • Adhere to all RC-14001 environmental health, safety, & security policies.
  • Participate in all job related and safety related training as required.  Travel to training site is sometimes required.
  • Select and use appropriate personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety goggles, hard hat, steel toed shoes, gloves, respirators and other personal protective equipment as required by OSHA and/or Ashland policies.
  • Use analytical equipment to accurately test & disposition raw materials, intermediate products, finished products and customer returned product for a variety of properties such as performance, appearance, and other physical and chemical characteristics.
  • Record test data in SAP.
  • Make batch adjustment determinations through product analysis using standardized procedures and methods.
  • Recommend product formulation modifications based on historical or test data.
  • Approve products for packaging when evaluation determines compliance to product specifications.
  • Enter AIR’s incidents related to supplier certificate of analysis and other nonconformance’s to Ashland requirements
  • Participate in the determination of corrective and preventive actions in continuous improvement programs.
  • Participate in gage R & R studies.
  • Participate in laboratory instrument calibrations.
  • Communicate known or suspected raw material or finished product quality issues or trends.
  • Maintain stocks of laboratory consumables.
  • Prepare finished product certificates of analysis.
  • Effectively respond to Ashland sales, technical service, and product development requests for information.
  • Fill in for absent laboratory technicians.

 **This job is based on a ladder structure and the job level (salary) will be determined by the quantity and quality of your experience.

  

There will be limited exposure to chemicals, including but not limited to solvents, monomers, amines, acrylates, glycols, ketones, quinones, and quaternary salts.

Qualifications

Required Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Basic understanding and ability to perform simple tasks in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

  • College degree; Associates or Bachelors degree in Chemistry preferred
  • Quality Control lab experience and/or training, especially quality control of coatings 
  • Experience in the composites industry
  • Experience with SAP software or other formula and quality management software
  • ISO quality management
  • Experience working in an industrial setting, especially those handling hazardous materials
  • Experience reading and understanding hazardous material labeling systems such as, but not limited to, Hazardous Materials Identification System (HMIS) and the NFPA Hazardous Materials Label
