Overview

Ashland is seeking a Production Engineering Co-op to join our team.

  

The Co-op Engineering Program at our Calvert City location provides job opportunities for students to learn and develop application skills.  These skills, that enhance the student’s overall knowledge of Chemical Engineering, are developed by working at a major chemical manufacturing site during the student’s formal college training.  The job assignments fall into two categories: Production Engineer and Process Engineer.

 

PRODUCTION ENGINEER

A Production Engineer Co-op works in one of the three plant operations units at the Calvert City, KY manufacturing site.  He/She works closely with the Area Engineers and operating personnel to monitor and troubleshoot manufacturing operations and product quality within the production area. 

Description

Description of Duties:

  • Monitors and updates production trends associated with unit reliability, downtime, and failure mechanisms.
  • Monitors and evaluates reactor temperature, pressure, and raw material processing trends.
  • Recommends and completes small projects. Tracks costs associated with implementation of projects. (examples: instrumentation upgrades, pump changes, flow meter changes)
  • Utilizes operations monitoring tools and/or systems to aid production personnel with making decisions. (e.g. lab data downloads, batch yield data, statistical analyses, distributed control system trends)
  • Monitors process cycle times, yields, quality analyses for improvement opportunities.
  • Assists Process Engineering Department, Area Engineer, and/or Area Personnel with new product development, project planning, and startup support.
  • Investigates product quality failures and helps implement corrective actions.
  • Enhances their oral and writing skills by writing technical reports, making a presentation each term on work assignments and accomplishments.
