We are currently looking for a Senior Quality Audit Manager.


This is a new role established within Internal Audit with the full support of the Quality and Operations organizations and senior management. The role is envisaged as a multi-year rotational commitment for qualified personnel seeking career development opportunities in the Quality or Operations organizations.


**Multiple Ashland offices and manufacturing locations will be considered.



This function is being established to:

  • Reinforce quality strategy and assess the implementation of enhancements to the quality management system
  • Identify critical / major areas of focus to prioritize ongoing quality efforts
  • Launch an independent, consistent and rigorous internal audit program
  • Enable routine, periodic assessment with the goal of:
    • Monitoring the state of the company’s quality management system
    • Reducing business risk
    • Promoting continual improvement
    • Evaluating the effectiveness of the company’s Quality requirements and policies
    • Improving operating efficiency (reducing waste and rework)

The Senior Quality Auditor manages, plans and conducts internal Quality audits and is in on-going communications with management at all levels to report and follow-up on audit results.


The position involves leading internal Quality audits at Ashland facilities globally. The successful candidate should expect up to an average of 30 – 40% world-wide travel. 


Quality Audit is a technical specialty within Ashland’s Internal Audit Department (IAD), ultimately reporting to the company’s Vice President, Internal Audit.  This position reports to the Global EH&S and Quality Audit Manager, who is located in Dublin, Ohio.


This position has global responsibilities and requires a significant amount of travel. As such multiple Ashland office and manufacturing locations will be considered as a home base.


 **This job is based on a ladder structure and the job level (salary) will be determined by the quantity and quality of your experience.


Key accountabilities of this position include:

  • Plans and leads site audits that include experienced subject matter experts from other parts of the organization and/or contractor firms.
  • Manages multiple complex audit projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensures that project deliverables meet IAD’s evidence and quality standards with minimal oversight.
  • Conducts meetings to advise management of the nature and status of issues identified during fieldwork.
  • Provides management with timely, accurate, and complete reports. Evaluates the effectiveness of management’s corrective and preventive actions. Reviews and recommends final draft audit reports to the Global EH&S and Quality Audit Manager and Vice President, Internal Audit for final review and approval before issuance.
  • Applies subject matter expertise and excellent communication skills to independently and objectively help stakeholders identify and meet Quality compliance requirements.
  • Assists in maintaining compliance audit protocols and effectively applying them during fieldwork.
  • Proactively maintains a broad knowledge of current and emerging Quality Standards that are applicable to Ashland sites such as; ISO 9001, EFfCI, BRC, FSSC22000, EXCiPACT and ICH Q7
  • Provides detailed interpretation of applicable complex laws, regulations and standards in a manner that delivers accurate and efficient feedback and guidance to management.
  • Demonstrates a breadth and depth of understanding of multiple Quality subject areas.
  • Collaborates with the Global EH&S and Quality Audit Manager to identify and implement processes and tools that enhance the quality and efficiency of Quality audit work.
  • Provides Quality support to selected financial and operational audits conducted by IAD on an as-needed basis.
  • Participates in special Quality compliance and assessment projects, as requested, that require an advanced degree of technical/audit knowledge and skills.




  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biological Sciences or related major required. Relevant advanced degree preferred.
  • Comprehensive professional experience in Quality disciplines with minimum of 6 – 8 years’ experience in Quality program development and/or Quality audits required. Experience in both site and corporate Quality job functions would be beneficial.
  • Prior Quality compliance audit fieldwork experience preferred. International fieldwork experience preferred. 
  • One or more of the following professional certifications is required: CQA, CQE, HACCP certified, knowledge of ICH Q9, QRAs or other equivalent certification.
  • Extensive knowledge of GMP requirements and their practical application in one or more of the following processes/manufacturing areas required; pharmaceutical excipients, food contact, personal care.
  • Experience as a team leader. Leading teams to generate a vision, establish direction and motivate members, create an atmosphere of trust, leverage diverse views, coach staff, and encourage improvement and innovation. Ability to manage staff on several concurrent projects.
  • Experience working with management to build trust and to support operations. Sharing lead practices on internal controls. Identifying and monitoring resolution of systemic issues.
  • Proficiency in working with a variety of quality and ERP information systems and technologies.
  • Multiple language skills are a plus.
  • Ability to travel 30% - 40% worldwide.

  • Effective interpersonal skills, which allow candidate to relate well to the IAD, Quality and Operations teams and to all levels of management.
  • Clear and effective oral and written communication skills (must be an exceptional listener) and an ability to work within a complex environment across all levels and geographies.
  • Good analytical/quantitative skills, Lean 6 Sigma skills a plus.
  • Intelligent, clear, and logical thinker.
  • Business minded with an ability to work with quality, manufacturing and operations leaders throughout the audit process. Demonstrate a sense of curiosity and knowledge about business strategies, risks and controls.
  • Ability to understand end-to-end process and to challenge the norm to drive agility in the audit, quality and operations organizations.
  • Ability to effectively, persuasively and with appropriate conviction present views to auditees.
  • Managerial courage to confront difficult issues with the appropriate response and communicate appropriately and in a timely manner with all stakeholders in those issues.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and able to maintain a strong results focus.
  • Ability to meet or exceed client expectations. Customers include audit, quality, and operations management, senior management, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel to other campus locations as needed for audit leadership / team meetings, audit team member development and audit assignments.
  • Ability to assume a more senior management position.
