Overview

We are looking to fill a Production Engineer opening at our Calumet City, IL Specialty Ingredients facility.  This engineering position reports to the Operations Manager, and will be member of our Production Department. 

 

The Production Department supports plant operations and maintenance with process, equipment and industry expertise that drives continuous improvement and change at the plant, as well as supporting Environmental, Safety and Health compliance and product quality assurance.This position is primarily focused on supporting and continuously improving the operation of five batch polymer resin reactors. Support includes: maintenance and optimization of mechanical equipment, DCS systems, as well as personnel training and the updating of operating instructions.

Description

Typical activities can include:

  • Daily interaction with operators, supervisors and product line chemists to troubleshoot and implement corrective actions when batches process atypically or improvements are needed.
  • Evaluation of data and trending to monitor cycle time, downtime, and other key process parameters to identify improvement opportunities. Work with Process Engineers to implement solutions.
  • Leading investigations of safety and quality related events/incidents applying Root Cause tools to drive action plans. Lead Process Safety efforts for Hazard Analysis (PHA), Layers of Protection (LOPA), Management of Change (MOC).
  • Performing project improvements through system design modifications, evaluating and selecting equipment & materials, allocation and justification for funding, following project through check out, start up and employee training.
  • Any other Ashland LLC, or Plant initiatives assigned.

Interested candidates should expect to be challenged to both lead sustainable change and be experts on the equipment and processing performed at the Calumet City Plant. 

 

**This job is based on a ladder structure and the job level (salary) will be determined by the quantity and quality of your experience.

**This position is located in Calumet City, IL.

Qualifications

  • Must be authorized to work in the US.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering is required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experiece with plant manufacturing operations involving chemical processes and related equipment preferred
  • Delta V and SAP experience a plus.
  • Continuous Improvement (Lean Six Sigma, 5S, etc.) experience a plus.
  • A sense of urgency to deliver results.
  • Be depedable and a self-starter.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills while being a team player.
