Overview

Ashland is seeking a process technology expert to provide technical leadership and drive process improvement in our cellulose ether manufacturing processes.

In this role you will act as a process change agent, leading process improvement initiatives designed to improve business results and achieve strategic objectives. This is a critical position offering a high degree of autonomy and the opportunity for hands on involvement in all aspects of the manufacturing process.

This position is based in Hopewell, VA and will be responsible for supporting multiple manufacturing facilities throughout the US and internationally.

The Sr. Chemical Process Engineer is responsible for evaluating existing processes and configuring manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability and develop best practices within the cellulosic ethers production process.

 

Location:  May be based in Hopewell, VA or other Ashland manufactiring location.

 

**This job is based on a ladder structure and the job level (salary) will be determined by the quantity and quality of your experience.

Description

  • Lead the effort to maintain reliable and safe manufacturing systems while improving production rates, efficiencies, yields, costs and changeovers.
  • Determine root cause of operating problems and implement solutions
  • Improve process capability and production volume while maintaining and improving quality standards.
  • Develop and implement systems that optimize all phases of production process
  • Research new manufacturing technology and work with equipment designers to develop a efficient and cost-effective production process.
  • Investigates alternate raw materials for cost and quality improvements
  • Provide expertise in determining capital budgets and equipment upgrades.
  • Provide technical leadership and support to plant engineers and manufacturing teams.
  • Participate in all manufacturing safety initiatives

Qualifications

  • BS in Chemical Engineering required, Masters preferred.
  • 10+ years’ experience is required with the majority of the experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Strong leadership, project management and communication skills
  • Ability to apply data based problem solving techniques and the use of statistical quality improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma methodology including DMAIC
  • Understanding of International Standards ISO 9001 preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others across all levels
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • SAP experience helpful
  • Must be willing and able to travel in the US and internationally
