Overview

This is an opportunity to start a career as a Operator to join us at our facility located in Assonet, MA. During the initial six-month on-the-job training this position is accountable for making every effort to ensure they have an essential understanding of plant policies, procedures and safety practices. The Chemical Operator is expected to help offer solutions to inadequate procedures, batch processes with lengthy cycle times, minor equipment failures and safety issues.

 

Starting Salary: $20 per hour with possibility of rate progression based on performance.

 

Work Location: Assonet (Freetown), MA

Explanation of Rotating Schedule.  Please read carefully:

 

Ashland’s Freetown plant operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  To staff the production department we use a schedule that is common among industries that run around the clock.  This shift schedule is often referred to as the “DuPont Schedule.”

 

The successful applicant will work on one of four teams.  Each team is on the same 28-day pattern.  During each cycle of the pattern a person works 14 shifts and is off 14 days.  Each shift is 12 hours.  The 14 shifts require working seven days (7A – 7P) and seven nights (7P – 7A) with days off in between.  The pattern requires working two out of four weekends.  The 28 day cycle also includes one period of seven consecutive days off.  

 

Description

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform simple batch operations
  • Perform equipment preparations for starting batches
  • Operate dryers and blenders
  • Perform material handling operations; including being able to operate a fork truck
  • Operate packaging equipment
  • Perform additional work as required including clean-up of plant
  • Take samples of process materials
  • Assist advanced operators

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required, additional education with courses in Science & Math helpful. Chemical manufacturing experience desired but not required.
  • Minimum of one year of work experience is required in one of these or similar industries: chemical manufacturing, distribution, warehouse & logistics, utilities, food processing, military experience is also acceptable
  • Must have a valid drivers license
  • Must be drug free and be able to pass a post offer physical
  • Must be willing and able to work the rotating shift as stated above
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge in plant utilities and safety
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts (7:00 am to 7:00 pm and 7:00 pm to 7:00 am)
  • Ability to follow directions, written and verbal.
  • Close attention to detail
  • Good communication skills
  • Mechanical and computer aptitude.

Work Environment:

  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment as required to avoid exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, confined space entry and loud noises.
  • Heavy weight lifting and pulling (greater than 50 lbs.).
  • Climbs ladders up to 20ft. high.
